CENABIO/UFRJ is today a national and international estuary, with the development of numerous scientific and technological projects of high relevance and is available to the entire scientific community in Brazil and abroad. CENABIO/UFRJ’s mission is:
- Provide an infrastructure in bioimaging for scientific and technological research and development in the form of a National Multi-user center;
- Offer a study and exchange atmosphere for researchers from all over the country and abroad to develop their projects at CENABIO/UFRJ;
- Allow, in an integrated manner and on a mesoscopic scale, the analysis of biological systems, from the atomic-molecular and cellular level, to the analysis of living organisms by imaging techniques, passing through cells and tissues;
- Enable, in an integrated manner and in the same space, the study of subcellular structures of different complexity, whole cells and tissues, both in vitro using cell and tissue culture, and in vivo with the imaging of small animals;
- Offer unique possibilities for the study of structures and functions of organs and systems in small animals, using varied and complementary techniques, such as: nuclear magnetic resonance, ultrasonography, chemiluminescence, positron emission tomography, photon emission tomography single and computed tomography;
- Make it possible to carry out behavioral studies on animals, with experimental vivariums and a procedure room.
